Is a New 'Phantasm' Project Closer Than Previously Thought?
08.28.09 By: Peter Hall
Let the telephone game begin: Quiet Earth tells us that Horror Year Book picked up on a post by a forum member of PhantasmCommunity.com that a new Phantasm project is not only in the works but, "lensed and is nearly finished." Did you see that coming? Me neither. Last I had heard, the Tall Man himself was telling fans to not hold their breath for a Phantasm V.The article at Horror Year Book curiously leaves out any mention of official involvement with series creator Don Coscarelli, nor does it confirm if this new Phantasm will be a feature length film or some breed of episodic web content. But it does cite a choice quote franchise staple Reggie Bannister dropped earlier this year at a horror convention, "We all feel real good about 2009. Thirty year anniversary of the first picture. We sure would like to see some spheres flying around, that yellow shit flying fast and furious, and dwarves scittering and stuff like that. We're going to do our best. So we're trying to bring you some new stuff."
If that's not evidence enough that the land of brain splattering spheres and grave robbing alternate dimensions is once again in our future, the forum member who started it all provided a snap of Reggie Bannister in the mystery project. Either something's legitimately on our way or Bannister likes wandering the woods with a gun in his hand. Both ideas amuse me.

Sorry. Nothing on IMDB and From Quiet Earth site Aug 15th 2009:
Ugh, while I fanatically report any little tidbit I can find on one of my favorite films (series) of all time, I hate to tell you that Angus Scrimm got in touch with Fangoria and says NOTHING IS IN THE WORKS! ARGH! Here's his exact words: “There is nothing in the works, We did have a roundtable reading a year and a half ago of a lengthy script for PHANTASM V, which was written by Steve Romano, the co-writer on Don’s excellent MASTERS OF HORROR episode INCIDENT ON AND OFF A MOUNTAIN ROAD. The problem with that one was that it attempted to explain everything, and of course, nothing is really explicable with PHANTASM." That's terrible news as they've been teasing about it for quite a while new, and even the ice cream man himself, Reggie Bannister, had written a post apocalyptic script a few years ago which sounded right incredible. I guess we'll have to just keep waiting, but still all of us fans should let them know that we do love Phantasm and we want to see the series continued, Hoo-Hah

Well I think it would make sense to make a finale movie before most of the cast members are dead. Promises are made on the back of the phantasm dvds that all answers are revealed in the final installment. However they've been saying that since part 3. Wish Coscarelli would get off his tookus and finish his series. Questions need to be answered and the story needs to be resolved. It's been thirty years. We all need closure.
