Tommy Wirkola's Nazi zombie flick Dead Snow turned up on a lot of "Best Horror of '09" lists (mine included), but unless you managed to catch it earlier this year when it was available through IFC On Demand, you probably haven't seen it. The good news is that you'll be able to remedy that situation on February 23rd, when the flick makes its DVD and Blu-ray debut.Dread Central has the lowdown on the extras which should make the fans happy. They include:
- Behind Dead Snow featurette
- Special make-up effects of Dead Snow featurette
- Madness in the North, Madness in the West! featurette
- Burning the Cabin featurette
- The Sounds of Dead Snow featurette
- Outtakes
- Theatrical trailer
The DVD will come as a 2 Disc Special Edition set, while the Blu-ray will have the same material on a mere single disc.
If you've been living under a rock for the past year and aren't familiar with Dead Snow, it's a Norwegian horror comedy about a group of friends who go vacationing at an isolated cabin in the Alps. Unfortunately, they run afoul of a battalion of Nazi zombies and lots of hilariously gory mayhem ensues. If you're a fan of movies like Evil Dead and Dead Alive, you will definitely want to check this out.

Gotta love those dark Germanic fairy tales. They are ripe with strange folklore, the supernatural, and some of the most grotesque creatures ever imagined. These stories are intrinsically woven into the fabric of horror culture. You would think there would be more amazing fairy tale film adaptations, but only a few immediately come to mind: The Company of Wolves, Little Otik, Snow White and the Seven Dwarf and Labyrinth. Perhaps they hold more magic on paper, but it's inevitable that filmmakers will continue to turn to these tales for inspiration.
