We're still over a month away from The Descent Part 2's American DVD debut (brought to you by the folks at Lionsgate), but that doesn't mean it's too early to make audience's aware of the title. The New York Post's PopWrap blog got dibs on the first trailer for the film--and it looks like it should please fans of the original.

The sequel picks up where Neil Marshall's film left off. Lone survivor Sarah (Shauna MacDonald) escapes from the caves but is forced to return with a rescue team. Naturally, this new group runs afoul of the subterranean mutants that populated the first film. It's like going back for a second helping at the human buffet! The creatures appear to be a little more feral and savage this time out.

This film is bypassing theaters in favor of a direct to DVD release on April 27th. Extras haven't been officially confirmed yet, but I posted the tentative list almost a month ago. You can peruse that article by clicking here.

MySpace Horror and Bloody-Disgusting have a special treat for zombie lovers and Romero fans this morning, a brand new red band trailer for Romero's latest zombie epic Survival of the Dead.

The new clip is more of a teaser than a full-fledged preview, but it does feature lots of walking corpses--and I think we're all pretty interested in that. I'm not going to say anything else about it--just jump past the break and watch it for yourself. Make sure you're of age, though--it's got one of those age-gate deals to keep the young 'uns out.

Survival of the Dead focuses on the inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead and eating their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure.

Romero's sixth zombie film makes its Video On Demand debut on April 30th. The feature will also have a limited theatrical release beginning May 28th--all courtesy of the good folks at Magnet Releasing.

It seems like it was only a matter of time before we got around to having holiday-themed zombie films. After all, filmmakers have already put the walking dead into almost every other scenario you could have imagined (and probably a few that never occurred to you), so it seems like all that was left to do was stage the inevitable zombie apocalypse on a day like Christmas.

That's exactly what Joe Zerull's horror-comedy A Cadaver Christmas has in store for audiences. The feature, which finds a janitor, a bartender, a drunk, a cop, a criminal, and a student security guard joining forces to stop a zombie outbreak on Christmas Eve, finished principal photography back at the end of July. It's currently in post-production with no official release date in sight.

A Cadaver Christmas started life as a three-minute short film featured in the 48 Hour Film Project Competition. Response was so positive that Zerull and company decided to expand it to feature length. If the trailer (which comes from Twitch) is any indication, the decision was a wise one.

Prior to Wednesday, I had no clue who Julian Cheah was. However, after watching this astonishingly awful absolutely amazing trailer for his new feature, Killer Clown, I've made it my life's work to track down all of this man's cinematic oeuvre. This shouldn't take me too long, because according to his IMDB page, Cheah hasn't made any other movies (his Facebook page proves IMDB wrong, though). I suspect his dance card will fill up rapidly after studio execs get a load of Killer Clown.

Twitch brought this clip to my attention on Wednesday morning and I owe them a debt of gratitude. Cheah wrote, directed, produced, starred in, and probably catered this odd melding of Hong Kong's heroic bloodshed action cinema and slasher movies about a guy who's "not a cop, more like a vigilante" on the hunt for the clown-masked killer who murdered his girlfriend. Cheah isn't effing around, either, because he tells one character "I don't want to understand him. I just want to kill him."

Picking the greatest part of this clip is all but impossible. Is it the odd way the voice-over guy pronounces words (the way he says Killer Clown at the end cracks me up), is it the "this makes porn acting look phenomenal" performances in the first scene? Maybe it's the incredibly stilted yet earnestly delivered dialogue? Could it be the fact that trailer is comprised almost entirely of scenes with people running? Perhaps it's the classic sequence where the knife-wielding maniac gets lazy and pulls out a machine gun instead? The options are endless.

I have no idea when Killer Clown is coming out, but I assure you I will be seeing it. Julian Cheah, you've got a lifelong fan in me--and I'm only half joking. Jump beyond the break to see the trailer.

Put on a pot of coffee and stock up on No-Doze because everyone's favorite bastard son of a hundred maniacs is about to make his big screen comeback. Platinum Dunes has unveiled the second trailer for Samuel Bayer's re-imagining of Wes Craven's classic A Nightmare on Elm Street--and my early reaction is that it looks decent.

The new clip comes courtesy of Trailer Addict and it showcases lots of footage we hadn't seen in the earlier spot during its two-and-a-half minute running time. The most interesting thing, to me anyway, is how many scenes they've recreated from the original film. We knew the bathtub scene was making a comeback, but the new trailer reveals that the "Freddy stretching through the wall like it was made of spandex" scene is coming back as well--with some dodgy looking CGI--and it appears Tina's gravity-defying death scene might be featured too.

For those of you who are wondering, yes, the clip does feature Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy. There was a great deal of concern about the actor's voice after the last trailer debuted--and while it sounds like they've changed it to a certain degree for this trailer, I'm still not feeling it's what it should be. Perhaps it will grow on me in the context of the full performance.

I'm not getting too excited for the film based on these previews--Platinum Dunes has suckered me into a bad remake with a good trailer before--but it's hard to deny that the project shows definite signs of promise.

Since it's almost Valentine's Day, I guess this is as good a time as any to profess my newfound love for IFC. The company is continually wooing me with news of one cool release after another, and today's no exception since they've just announced that they've acquired the distribution rights for Stuart Hazeldine's Exam.

Screen Daily got the scoop on the company's plans for the title, which is being billed as "The Apprentice goes to Hell". IFC hasn't set a firm release date for Exam, but the article indicates that it will come out later this year through the distributor's Festival Direct Video-On-Demand channel.

If this is your first time hearing about Exam, then allow me to regale you with some plot synopsis...

Eight job candidates have reached the final interview for a position with a powerful corporation. They're shut in a room with an armed guard and given 80 minutes to answer a single question--only when they turn over the paper, there's nothing on it. The rules are simple: don't spoil their papers, don't talk to the guard, and don't leave the room. Confused, the applicants begin to work together and uncover clues as to what they're supposed to do. Soon enough, the candidates start to turn against one another. How far will they go to pass this exam and land the job?

If you're a fan of foreign horror, you've got to love IFC. Over the course of the past year or so, they've become ardent supporters of fright films from around the globe, bringing numerous movies to America that probably would have never seen the light of a projector's bulb in domestic theaters otherwise.

Their latest, the French horror offering Mutants, is set to debut on their Video-On-Demand service on February 10th. In preparation, they've released an official trailer that you can check out after the jump.

The clip looks good--very reminiscent of 28 Days Later with its vicious and bloody monsters running amok. It doesn't appear to be particularly original--I think we may need a moratorium on pandemics as plot devices--but I don't think it's necessary to reinvent the wheel when making a movie of this nature in the first place. Give us some gore, a reasonably compelling story, and characters who don't act like total morons and I'll probably be happy.

"A world devastated by a pandemic virus that turns human beings into primitive and bloodthirsty creatures, Marco and Sonia set off to find a secret base to escape from the 'mutants.' When the latter attack them, Marco is contaminated, too. Little by little, he undergoes the same changes. Sonia, who is expecting a baby, is then forced to fight her worst enemy, the man she loves."

Fans of Bong Joon-ho's Korean monster movie The Host will be excited to know the filmmaker is returning to his genre roots with his latest offering, Mother.

The title, which finds a Korean mother investigating a gruesome murder her 27 year old son was framed for, sounds kind of like an episode of Murder She Wrote for obvious reasons, but after checking out the trailer, I'd say those comparisons are pretty silly. The film looks to be more thriller than straight up horror, but Bong pulled off a similar balancing act quite effectively in The Host--a feature that was one part monster movie, one part domestic drama.

Horror fans have been inundated with zombie movies over the past few years. Seems not a day goes by that I'm not reading an announcement or a press release for another flick filled with rotting corpses who've returned to life with an insatiable hunger for human flesh. I'm not complaining, because I love zombie films--but you don't see very many unique zombie titles these days. That's what makes this trailer for Ben Hibon's A.D. so interesting.

ZombieInfo snagged an exclusive interview with Hibon and his producers and screenwriter, and the project sounds like it's coming along nicely. Plot details are pretty scarce, but creator Haylar Garcia had this to say about his motivations for coming up with the concept:

"One day I realized that almost all zombie films, though cool, seemed to have such a modest scope. I suddenly wanted to write a screenplay that had the feel of a huge action flick coupled the macabre charm and metaphoric content of the great zombie film too."

Hibon and company state their plans are for an A.D. feature length film--and if the trailer's any indication, that would be quite a treat. Jump past the break to see the trailer for yourself.

Sega just keeps delivering the goodies for their upcoming Aliens vs. Predator title. We've seen trailers, interviews with the developers at Rebellion, gameplay footage, and even conversations with Lance Henriksen about the upcoming title, and that continues this morning with the unveiling of a new clip--this one focusing on the game's multiplayer Survival mode.

The short teaser--which is roughly a minute long--breaks down the game's cooperative element. Up to four players can team up as Marines who then must survive an all-out onslaught of the terrifying creatures from the Alien movies. The trailer looks intense, with screeching monsters flying around everywhere in the shadowy darkness. They've even brought back the beeping proximity sensors from Cameron's Aliens--and the noise of those things still freaks me out in an almost Pavlovian way.

Maybe the best news of all is that the trailer features a release date for the game. Aliens vs. Predator is slated for release on February 19th on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Maybe this will be the title that convinces me to finally get my red-ringed Xbox 360 fixed...
