There's still no official release date for Sega's Aliens vs. Predator game (everything still basically says "February 2010"), but that hasn't stopped them from releasing lots of trailers and promotional materials in the past few months. If you jump past the break you'll find the latest--one full minute of death scenes that Sega's calling the "Kill Moves" trailer. If nothing else, it appears as though Aliens vs. Predator should please fans of graphic violence (like me!)

I don't want to spoil any of the carnage, so I'll let you discover the joys of this clip on your own. AVP will put players in the role of space marines, Aliens, and the galaxy's most fearsome hunters, the Predator. It's a first person experience with shooting, stealth, and several other gameplay elements that will hopefully coalesce into a very satisfying whole. Lance Henriksen is even back as Karl Bishop Weyland (a descendant of his character in the first Alien vs. Predator film).

Generally speaking, licensed games aren't very good--but let's all cross our fingers and hope that this title bucks the trend. If nothing else, the gore alone should make it worth a look. Aliens vs. Predator will be out sometime next month for the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360. Gamers can score a standard version of the title, or go all-out for this deluxe collector's set.

EA's God of War clone Dante's Inferno was loosely (okay, very loosely) inspired by Dante Aligheri's classic poem, Inferno. Sure, Dante's poem didn't have his main character wandering into Hell with a giant scythe and shooting light crosses at everything that moved, but what's life without a little artistic license?

Luckily, gamers will now be able to compare and contrast the differences between the game and the source material thanks to Random House's decision to publish a special edition of Dante's masterwork to commemorate the launch of the game.

If you're wondering why you'd need this version and not just a standard text of Inferno that can be found in any library, it's because the new book will feature a foreword from the game's executive producer Jonathan Knight wherein he discusses the process of turning the poem into a game. But wait, there's more! This new edition also boasts 16 pages of full color art showcasing many of the characters' transition from the poem to the game. Sounds cool, but I'm not sold on the idea that gamers are going to run out and pick up a deeply philosophical book of poetry to go along with their action game that revolves around slaughtering demons in Hell. I can hear the complaints already, "but, where are the boobs? How come Dante doesn't shoot crosses of holy light everywhere?" Yeah, this may be a very bad idea...

However, if you're a gamer looking to broaden his literary horizons, or just a collector who wants some extra game-inspired artwork, you'll probably want to snag a copy of Inferno when it hits retailers on January 19th. That'll give you a few weeks to read ahead and become familiar with the story before Dante's Inferno releases this February.

Some of the fondest memories of my high school years involve hanging out with my best friend and playing Splatterhouse on his Sega Genesis (yes, I'm that old--I was actually in high school and almost to college when the Genesis came out...). The game was a gory sidescroller with gothic horror overtones and it looks positively quaint when compared to today's horror titles. Back then, we didn't get a lot of horror games (which probably explains my unfathomable love for the NES' Friday the 13th game), and Splatterhouse was about as good as it got on a console. At least part of my fascination with the game was the the hulking brute of a main character (named Rick) wore a hockey mask. Everyone who played pretended they were Jason Voorhees, which was probably the greatest design decision the developers ever made.

Anyway, it's been a long time since we've seen a new Splatterhouse game, but fear not, because one is coming soon. Namco-Bandai is reviving the series, but the road to release has been tumultuous at best. The original developers were fired and replaced, the game suffered a lengthy one year delay, and response to the early preview build of the new game was tepid at best. Things seem to be moving in the right direction now, or at least this new gallery of screenshots featured over at Kotaku create the illusion that they are. Rick's still a 'roid-raging hcckey-mask-wearing killing machine, and the game looks really bloody. Basically, that's all I need from a new Splatterhouse title.

I'm not the biggest vampire fan in the world, but I did really like Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines for the PC when it was all the rage a few years back. Since then, I've spent a lot of time looking for a game in that same vein. Cmedia's upcoming release, Vampire Hunters probably isn't going to be as good as Bloodlines was, but judging from the press release and a new gameplay trailer, there may be some fun to be had for those adventurous enough to plunk down $16.99 to try it out.

What's most disappointing about the trailer is that the 'vampire hunter' of the title doesn't seem to slaughter any sparkling vampires. I'd be all in on a game that basically put me in a world where killing Twilight characters was not only encouraged, but rewarded. If you can get past that letdown, the rest of Vampire Hunters looks to be a mixture of adventure-styled exploration coupled with a turn-based combat system ripped straight out of your traditional Japanese Role-Playing Game.

I'm generally a fan of turn-based RPGs, but the mechanic looks clunky in this game's trailer. Killing vampires seems like it should be more action-oriented, and even the inclusion of an "active time battle system" (meaning that combat doesn't devolve completely into a "enemy turn, your turn, enemy turn" mess) doesn't seem to be helping. I'll cross my fingers and hope it's much more engaging in the game proper.

What does Willem Dafoe's junk, a talking fox, and a dead child all have in common? Well, they're going to star in a video game adaptation of Lars von Trier's Antichrist courtesy of Morten Iversen, a developer with some serious credentials in the world of game geekery. Formerly of Io Interactive, Iversen now works at von Trier's Zentropa production company.

Russ Frushtick over at MTV Multiplayer tracked down Iversen to ask him what the hell is up with this project, so to speak, and here's what he had to say.

"Von Trier has been extremely fond of video games for ages, and has been an avid player of 'Alone in the Dark,'" explained Iverson. "He's been circulating the idea internally... that making games would be a good idea." He describes it as "a nightmarish version of 'Myst.'"

("Alone in the Dark"? Really? Come on, Lars!)

But apparently Zentropa's game dev people have some rather cool ideas in mind. If dead kids aren't your biggest fear in life, you can tweak your profile to indicate what scares you most and the game will respond in kind.
